A library of books by people who know their subject
Scribrary is a free library made by Scribe Media, a book writing and publishing company in Austin, Texas that has published more than 3,000 books, including 23 New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestsellers.
Why it exists
Most of the books Scribe publishes are written by people who are not professional writers: surgeons, financial planners, founders, attorneys, coaches, pastors, veterans, teachers. Their books are often the clearest explanation of a subject you can find, written by someone who does the work every day, but they rarely sit on the front table of a bookstore. Scribrary puts them in one place and makes them easy to search by topic.
Where the book information comes from
Every title, subtitle, author name, cover image, description, publication year and buy link comes from Scribe Media's own publishing records: the same records behind the published books list on scribemedia.com and Scribe's imprints, Lioncrest Publishing and Houndstooth Press. Descriptions are the books' own descriptions, lightly cleaned for punctuation. Nothing is written or summarized by a machine.
What is included and what is left out
- A book is listed only when its record has a cover, a description of real length and a link to buy it. Books missing any of those are left out until the record is complete.
- Fiction and children's books are left out. This is a nonfiction library.
- When the same book appears twice in the records, it is listed once.
- If a cover in the records turned out to belong to another book, the listing is held back until it is fixed.
How shelves and sorting work
Each book is placed on shelves from two fields in Scribe's records: the book's genre and the field its author works in. A book can sit on several shelves. Shelf pages and search results are sorted by the number of ratings each book had on Amazon when Scribe last checked, so the most-read books come first. Nobody pays to be listed or to rank higher.
Buying a book
Each book links to its Amazon page. As an Amazon Associate, Scribe Media earns from qualifying purchases, which costs you nothing extra. Most of these books can also be ordered through any bookstore or requested at your library by title and author.
Corrections
If something about a book is wrong, or you are an author and want your listing changed, write to Scribe through the contact page on scribemedia.com and include the book title.
